About the Artist

Jill Dietrich - Biography

Jill Dietrich has lived most of her life in the Greater Houston area. Though she enjoyed sketching as a child, she didn’t pursue her interest in creating art until later in life. After becoming a mom, retiring from a career in veterinary medicine, and working with a non-profit on behalf of families of children with disabilities, Dietrich attended the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. She now works out of her home studio in Richmond, TX.

Dietrich combines unrelated images into intricate and thought-provoking compositions. She collects interesting bits of photos, graphics and patterns from a variety of print materials and then pieces them together like a jigsaw puzzle. Dietrich enjoys working intuitively, allowing the image to emerge and evolve as she works. As each piece flows into the next, a new and fantastical scene evolves with unexpected connotations and juxtapositions. Just as the original source materials are repurposed, the images within are re-contextualized and opened up to new interpretations.
